When The Country Went To War, These Starlets Did Their Part To Support The Effort!

There were so many ways that every government involved in World War II asked every citizen to help with the war effort. While you wouldn’t expect the stars in Hollywood to be planting gardens, they did help the war effort through fund-raising and promotion. Check out these starlets doing their part to help!

In an effort to be more efficient with fuel and machinery, deliveries were considered a frivolity during the war. The campaign of “I’ll Carry Mine” urged consumers to carry their own packages rather than have them delivered (which was very common at the time). We can see here actress Betty Hutton (in braids) and singer/ actress Betty Jane Rhodes carrying their purchases in paper bags with the campaign’s slogan printed on them. It was a small thing, but every little bit helped, especially if thousands of shoppers carried their own bags and boxes home.
