THE SUN: “WE OWE MISS MEGHAN AN APOLOGY”

The Sun (UK tabloid) issued an apology after falsely alleging that Meghan Markle appeared in porn videos.

On Nov. 4, 2016, UK-based tabloid The Sun ran a story that inferred Markles was a porn actress, linking to several scenes featuring Markle were uploaded to a site that indexes porn clips. The clips, which did not include nudity, turned out to be heavily-edited clips from Markle’s work in the US-based legal drama Suits. The Sun eventually apologized for the smear against Markle.

While the vilest smears against Markle were limited to disreputable tabloids, a wider public discussion about Markle’s status as a divorcee was held across all British media platforms, with critics wondering if Markle was no more than a latter-day reincarnation of Wallis Simpson.
