As time goes by and technology gets better, things in our lives begin to change; so too do the things we play with. Toys have become motorized, digitized, and more sleek. Yet if you’re like us, you’ll always have a soft spot for the simple toys of yesterday. A set of marbles might not light up or make fun noises, but they still provide hours of entertainment (actually now that I think about it, the sound of a cat’s eye cracking into the pile is quite satisfying)! Sometimes, it’s hard to realize just how much toys have changed in the past 100 years. So we decided to put together a little quiz to see if you can identify which toys came from which decade. The toys range from 1910 to the 2000s, and identifying the decade they’re from can get quite tricky! Keep track of your guesses, see the answer below each photo, and let us know your score in the comments!
We’ll start with something easy; here we see a Playskool set, along with an R2D2 figurine, an Etch-a-Sketch, a Bert doll from Sesame Street, and Paddington Bear! Pop culture was beginning to make its mark on the toy industry this decade…
The first thing you may notice about the toys from this decade are that they were built to last! You could spend hours looking at anything and everything under your very own microscope, while the spinning top was just clean, simple fun!
Some of you may remember getting these toys for your kids. Do you remember the craze surrounding the toys that represent this decade? Tickle-Me-Elmo was the must-have Christmas item, while everyone was sure that Beanie Babies would be the next great collector’s item.
