7. A President Steps Down

Following the Watergate Scandal of 1972, in which five men broke into the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters, President Richard Nixon resigned on August 9th, 1974. He was the first and only President to ever resign his position, and remains so to this day.

8. Live From New York It’s Saturday Night

One of television’s longest-running shows, Saturday Night LiveĀ made its debut on October 11th, 1975. The cast, dubbed the “Not Ready For Prime Time Players,” included Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase and John Belushi. The first host was comedian George Carlin, and the show just celebrated its 40th anniversary last year!
