Is there anything better than bacon? In our humble opinion, the answer is simple: No. Bacon on its own is a slice of heaven, and it has even more potential when you save those bacon renderings for later.

In generations past, stored bacon fat became a budget conscious way to use leftover food for a practical kitchen purpose. Today, most of us use cooking oils or sprays but bacon grease is a retro way to add great flavor to a dish and repurpose something we’d otherwise throw away. Besides, bacon makes everything taste better!

If you’re not already familiar, to render bacon means to cook it slowly over low or medium heat to get all of the fat to melt out of the meat. That liquified grease can be transferred to an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for up to one month. Do your best to strain out any bits and pieces so you’re left with only liquid. Then add a dollop as needed to add great flavor pretty much any meal.
