One of our favorite parts about the show is watching when the judges hit the button that essentially means, “I want you on my team.” During Johnny Hayes’ 2017 performance of Otis Redding’s 1966 classic “Try a Little Tenderness,” it didn’t take the judges long at all. Hayes had the timing, the voice, and the charm down pat, and it shows in his electric performance.

Stevie Wonder’s classic Motown hit from 1970 is always guaranteed to get the audience on their feet, and that’s exactly what happened during Aliyah Moulden’s 2017 performance. You can really see her feeding off the energy of the crowd, and the passion she has for what she’s doing.

“House of the Rising Sun”

“House of the Rising Sun,” the 1964 hit by The Animals, is one of those songs you can feel in your bones. It has a mysterious past, with origins in folk and blues, and when it’s performed correctly, it has a tendency to leave you with chills. When Hannah Huston took the stage to perform this song in 2016, she gave one of the standout performances of the season. See for yourself!
