Woman Finds $36,000 In Free Couch She Got On Craigslist

The couch was full of hidden envelopes that were stuffed with cash.

File this one under the “why didn’t this happen to us instead?” category. This is the story of a California woman who received a free couch from a stranger that she met online.

When she brought the new furniture home, she made the most amazing discovery. There was $36,000 in cash tucked inside of it. Vicky Umodu is a resident of San Bernardino County and she is the one who came across this hidden bundle of money.

Once the pieces had been moved into her residence, that is when Umodu noticed that something was amiss. There was $36,000 in cash stashed in various envelopes hidden in the couch. When she notified the family about what she had found, they were quick to note her generosity and provide her with a reward.

Of course, there are many who would have simply kept the money for themselves. On the other hand, we are not sure that we would be able to sleep at night with all of this ill-gotten money in our home.

According to ABC7, she said: “I said, ‘Maybe it’s a gimmick.’ I said, ‘Let me call them.'” It was not long before she learned that the family was getting rid of the furniture after the passing of a loved one. “I just moved in, and I don’t have anything in my house. I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in,” Vicky continued.

As for the family, they had no idea why so much money had been stashed in this couch. However, they did end up finding even more money hidden in envelopes in other areas, so it was perhaps a saving mechanism of their late family member.

As for Umodu, she was rewarded with $2,200 for returning the cash. The family wanted to reward her for being honest and for doing the right thing.
