They Played A Recreated ‘Field Of Dreams’ Game In Iowa
Two years ago there was a push for the MLB to bring the movie to life and it finally happened.
Major League Baseball is a huge pastime in the US. It is so popular that it has been the subject of many films throughout the years, including the iconic 1989 film, “Field of Dreams,” which starred Kevin Costner.
On August 12, there was some nostalgia when the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox both came together in Dyersville, Iowa in order to play a real-life game inspired by the Field of Dreams game.
Kevin Costner even came out in order to kick off the game with a special pre-game ceremony that featured him emerging from the surrounding cornfields.
During the ceremony, he was followed by all the baseball players, who were all wearing uniforms that were a nod to the old-style uniforms worn in the movie.
As people might remember, the movie “Field of Dreams” featured Costner in the role of a farmer named Ray Kinsella, who builds a baseball diamond in his Iowa cornfield after hearing the famous line, “If you build it, they will come.”
The movie was nominated for several Academy Awards and has since continued to remain a beloved part of cinema history. Because of this, two years ago there was a push for the MLB to bring the movie to life.
The event was later postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was finally pulled off earlier this month and was met with a wonderful response from the cheering crowd.
The game ended up being a close one until the bottom of the 9th inning when the White Sox pulled off a win with a spectacular home-run.
And it was a great idea too, as many fans of both baseball and the movie would visit Dyersville, Iowa in order to see the farm that served as the setting for the movie. While Dyersville might be a small town with only a population of roughly a little more than 4,000 people, it has marked its place on the map as a baseball landmark.
The game proved to be very popular and was so successful that this will most likely become a regular event in the future. The MLB has already stated that they will probably be putting on another Field of Dreams game in 2022. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, there are rumors going around that the Chicago Cubs might be one of the teams participating. So we will just have to wait and see!
