Anyone who’s moved knows that you usually end up leaving a few things by the curb for passersby to take free of charge. Usually it’s something alone the lines of an old couch, TV, or scuffed end table.

Like many families making a new start somewhere else, the family in this story dragged a bunch of stuff they didn’t want to the curb — but they also purposefully left their dog.

It’s hard to believe that anyone would intentionally abandon a member of their family, but, unfortunately, it does happen. And this family left their casual cruelty on display for everyone to see, right outside their old home.

They left her with her blanket, and the poor thing clung to it desperately.

The picture of her cast aside is heartbreaking. She looks so confused and sad, and rightly so. She went from having a roof over her head, regular meals, and a family to watch over her, to being alone and homeless, in one day.

No dog should have to endure something like this. Luckily, Marina Tarashevska, Dallas DogRRR’s co-founder, discovered the abandoned pooch on New Year’s, and she was able to help the poor honey out.

But the dog didn’t want to come with her initially. She was sticking close to the blanket, probably hoping her family would come back for her.

She was clinging to the only thing that was still familiar.

Marina was determined to help the girl out, but it took some convincing for the pooch to comply. When Marina tried to help her, she just didn’t trust it.

Eventually, Marina got the blanket and was able to coax the dog into her backyard by using it.

Soon the dog was given a new name: Camilla.

Camilla continued to be wary of Marina, not letting her get too close, even after she was safe and cared for in Marina’s home. Camilla had been through so much already, and trusting someone else was going to take a while. She was taken to the vet to get some wounds taken care of, and the vet said that the injuries were likely due to an embedded collar.

Camilla is recovering nicely, and now lives in a foster home. Her physical wounds will heal, but it may take some time for her to recover emotionally.

Hopefully one day, she will find her forever home.
