The Forgotten Charm of Vintage Luggage Tags
These elegant pieces of paper are souvenirs from times long gone.
Particular labels can bring upwards of $1,000, though most sell for under $20 and vintage suitcases or trunks covered in these labels can be worth a lot more than their unadorned counterparts.
It wasn’t until flights became more accessible and cheaper that checked baggage tags became the uninteresting print-outs they are today. With their sterile black and white color scheme and utilitarian bar codes, modern baggage tags fail to inspire the imagination or to become treasured souvenirs of a wonderful trip.
They just don’t have quite the same appeal, much like how traveling itself has become something far less glamorous than it was for previous generations.
