Artist Creates Faberge Egg Modeled After Dragon Eggs For Game Of Thrones Exhibit

The Fabergé egg is molded from 18-karat white gold and is adorned by thousands of white diamonds, pink sapphires, moonstones, and rubies.

It’s been a few years since Game of Thrones came to an end. But there has recently been a renewed interest, given that HBO will be releasing the much-anticipated prequel to the series, House of the Dragon.

To coincide with the release of the prequel, a new Game of Thrones touring exhibition next year. Perhaps the most impressive piece that will be on display will be a Fabergé egg modeled after one of the dragon eggs given to Daenerys Targaryen.

The Fabergé egg is molded from 18-karat white gold and is adorned by thousands of white diamonds, pink sapphires, moonstones, and rubies. It is easily the most expensive form of Game of Thrones merchandise currently in existence.

This commemorative egg also opens up to reveal a second one, one made of three golden blades that represent the three dragons: Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.

Inside, the egg’s inner shells are further decorated with over 20 rubes and hundreds of pink sapphires and white diamonds. The ruby inside is on a removable white-gold crown, meaning that it can be detached in order to be worn as a pendant.

The egg’s construction was announced back in April 2021. But before the Fabergé jewelers could even begin the project, it was purchased by an anonymous buyer for $2.2 million! Must be nice to be a die-hard fan with plenty of cash to burn on your favorite fandom.

The costume designer for Game of Thrones, Michele Clapton, was consulted by Fabergé as to the egg’s design. Clapton said to The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s great to see some of the textures from Daenerys’s dresses, the smocking, and the embroidery. It was so exciting to find this process that we could actually get that and apply it to the egg, and the colors are so beautiful and so subtle. I hadn’t realized how controlled you could be with the colors, and the way this was put together is just beautiful.”
