Did You Know This TV Theme Song Had a Version With Lyrics and It Was Sung By Peggy Lee?!
This show was one of our favorites, but we never knew the theme song had lyrics! Have a listen to this wonderful rendition.
We all have TV shows that bring us right back to when we were young. And, we think we know all there is to know about certain shows. But, this one is an old favorite and we were shocked to find out that the famous upbeat theme song was written with lyrics! The Bewitched opening credits sequence was one of the best on TV! The fun animations and the catchy song let you know it was time for some fun. But, this song is even catchier with lyrics. And, Peggy Lee’s talent only adds to this wonderful song. The song was written in 1964 by Jack Keller (who also wrote songs for The Monkees). The story goes that the first choice for the theme was Frank Sinatra’s “Witchcraft” but that ABC did not want to pay for the rights to use the song, so they hired Keller to write something similar. The show’s developers decided on an instrumental version arranged by Warren Barker with all the twinkles and bells we’ve associated with the show all these years. The song went on to be recorded by several different artists in different styles, including Steve Lawrence and Jimmy Smith. Hear Peggy Lee’s smooth and rich version from 1965 below!
