8 Classic TV Shows That Began On The Radio. I Listened to #2 All The Time!

We decided to take a trip back in time and remember some of our favorite programs that actually began on the radio, before they made their way to the television.

4. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet

Starring the Nelsons, a real-life family, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet depicted the ideal family, and good, clean fun. After appearing on The Red Skelton Show the Nelsons were given their own program in 1944, that remained on the radio for 10 years. In 1952, the show appeared on TV for the first time, launching Ricky Nelson (who played the younger son) to teen stardom.

3. Gunsmoke

Something about the Wild Wild West just made for great radio. From 1952-1961, audiences tuned in to hear the adventures of Marshal Matt Dillon, a lawman from Dodge City, KS, in the classic program Gunsmoke. While James Arness might be the more familiar Matt Dillon (he starred in the TV series, which ran for 20 years), you might recall William Conrad played the titular character in the radio show.
