Man Finds Meteorite Worth Up To $130,000 In Neighbor’s Field

After watching the meteor fall through the sky, Tony was determined to find it.

Most of us would see a meteor streaking through the sky and not know what to do. We might try and get a picture of it or we might call a friend or two to see if they saw it as well.

These are understandable reactions, for sure. The dad in this story, though? He had different plans entirely and they have finally paid off for him.

According to the North Wales Live, Tony Whilding, 38, of Wrexham, North Wales, started the hunt for the meteorite after seeing the massive ball of flames streaking over his home.

After an 18 month search, he was finally able to track down the 2 pound/4 ounce meteorite, as it was nestled in a farmer’s field. The meteorite, which is said to be worth as much as $130,000, is quite the find.

According to North Wales Live, he said:

“I was in my back garden having a midnight cigarette when I noticed the sky lighting up above my head. I looked up to see a low-flying ball of fire with two swirling trails of smoke. It got brighter as it approached my house at about twice its height. It was so low you could have kicked a football in the air and it would have reached it.

As it crossed over, it extinguished within a few seconds. There was no noise, it just disappeared, leaving only the trails of smoke.”

There is just one question that needs to be answered here. In fact, we are sure that many of our readers have the same exact question about the whereabouts of this meteorite. What about the farmer whose field it was found in?

Tony is looking to have the meteorite certified, to ensure its worth. According to the news outlet, one collector took samples of the rock and concluded it wasn’t a meteorite but Tony later found those samples for sale. suggesting the collector had lied. Further testing will have to be done but photo comparisons are promising.

We would like to think that the farmer in question here would get the chance to cash in on the discovery as well but only time will. Perhaps Tony will keep the rock as a souvenir and not sell it at all!
