The Funniest Joke I Ever Heard was a double special that was broadcast in 1984 featuring many famous actors, comedians, and other celebrities retelling their favorite jokes. Victor Borge, Kathy Lee Gifford, and Ernest Borgnine were among those interviewed. Other famous celebrities included Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog. Along with these other well-known names Jimmy Stewart also told his favorite joke and it’s a doozie.

At the time this was recorded Stewart was 76-years-old and though it takes him a little bit to finish the joke, it’s well worth it. It starts out with a woman, Margaret, asking her husband, John, if he would remarry when she died. Well, you know with a set-up like that this one is bound to be funny. But, when Stewart does get to the end, the punchline is much funnier than we were expecting. We should have known he wouldn’t tell a clunker.
