While Some Songs Fade, This 1958 Hit By The Champs Is Timeless!
The song, which came out in 1958 and was a number one hit on both the pop and R&B charts, has been covered numerous times.
What makes a song special to you? For some, it’s the nostalgic feeling they get when they hear and old favorite, and all the memories that accompany it. Some enjoy whatever the current flavor of the month, and some just want a beat you can dance to. For whatever reason, it’s not very often that a song transcends generations and holds a permanent place in our culture. Of the few that come to mind, nothing has held up quite like “Tequila,” by The Champs. The song, which came out in 1958 and was a number one hit on both the pop and R&B charts, has been covered numerous times; of course, nothing beats the original. The following clip features a live performance of the song from an episode of Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show. While the audio isn’t as crisp as we’re used to these days, it’s still quite enjoyable (especially when that saxophone breaks out). We really enjoyed this performance, including the crowd shots (they certainly seemed to be enjoying it too).
