Today Walmart is very established brand, with a logo and image which speaks to many consumers. The retailer is the largest private sector employer in the U.S., with nearly 10 times the number of workers as even Starbuck’s Coffee!

The big box retailer began as a 5-10 store selling to a small base of customers in Newport, Arkansas, run from the storefront of an old Ben Franklin shop in 1945. Sam Walton opened a second, smaller store down the street soon after.

It wouldn’t be until 1962 that the first Walmart would open and by 1967 the chain was thriving.

The branding for the new company seemed almost non-existent and the logo has really evolved over the years from boring to Western style and back to a pretty tame font.
