The 10 Best Dance Crazes From The ’60s… Which One Was Your Favorite?

They don’t call them the Swinging Sixties for nothing!

6. The Hully Gully

Another song released in 1959, “(Baby) Hully Gully,” by The Olympics peaked at number 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1960. It wasn’t the most popular song, but it did well enough to inspire the Hully Gully dance craze! The song was written by Fred Sledge Smith and Clifford Goldsmith, and has been covered by at least 13 different artists. Some of the more notable renditions include Chubby Checker’s version from 1961, The Beach Boys version from 1965, and a live rendition by the Grateful Dead in 1981.
