In the 1970s Clyde Brown took over for lead singer Bill Fredericks, but the sound of The Drifters was still as smooth as silk and just perfect to dance to. Over the years the group has had literally dozens of different members, but the rights to the name The Drifters stands with the family of famous musician George Treadwell who was the manager for the vocal group from 1953 onward (later his daughter took on the role).

From their first hits in the 1950s to the group’s extended career performing live, The Drifters have had a place in American music like no other group. Of all the songs from the 1950s-60s, the hits from The Drifters are up there with some of the most romantic songs of all time.
