Man Finds $2.4 Million Worth Of Gold Hidden In An Old Tank

He bought the tank for $30,000. He got a pretty good deal!

An old tank might seem like an odd thing for a private citizen to own, but Nick Mead owns over 150 large tanks. Nick owns Tanks A Lot Ltd., a driving company. He purchases and refurbishes old military vehicles which are then used in various events like weddings, films, parties, and even funerals.

So it wasn’t Nick’s first rodeo when he purchased an old tank, on eBay of all places, for $30,000.

After the purchase and delivery of the old tank – an ex-Iraqi Army Type 69, Nick and his mechanic friend, Todd Chamberlain, went to work on the restoration. It seemed like it would be another routine job that would be done soon enough.

Part of the restoration process involves stripping down the tank. While doing this, Nick and Todd found machine gun ammunition. They were concerned that there might be guns inside the fuel tank, so they filmed themselves opening it up in case they needed to show it to bomb disposal experts.

However, it wasn’t guns they found in the fuel tank…

Instead of munitions, the pair found five gold bars. Each bar weighed about 12lbs.

“We didn’t know what to do. You can’t exactly take five gold bullion bars down to Cash Converters without questions being asked, so we called the police,” Nick told the Sun

The gold was handed over the police, but Nick has a receipt for the bars in a safety deposit box.

Nick and Todd think the gold was looted by Iraqi Soldiers in Kuwait during the Gulf War.
