Historian Explores Forgotten Fads Of The 1980s
With popular shows like “Stranger Things” bringing back that 80s nostalgia, it’s no surprise that the popularity of the 1980s hasn’t diminished.
Trends are pretty cyclical. They come and they go about every few years, and as a millennial, I’m noticing a lot of trends from my childhood making a comeback, and I’m not quite sure how to feel about that. Seeing the 90s being “fashionable” again fills me with both nostalgia and dread.
But there is one decade that doesn’t seem like it’ll be forgotten any time soon, and that would be the 1980s.
With popular shows like “Stranger Things” bringing back that 80s nostalgia, it would make sense that the popularity of the 1980s hasn’t diminished.
Rhetty for History has put together a YouTube video that covers all the popular trends from the 80s – many of which are still around today.
Some of these include things like boom boxes, break dancing, Rubik’s Cube, Pac-Man, parachute pants, MTV, Swatch watches, and big hair.
As the video explains, “The 1980s was a special decade especially for those that experienced it. there were many items that changed the world forever. Some of these may be long gone, but you never know when they’ll reappear. Just like the mullet, the decade will never truly die.”
It’s quite true, it seems like the ’80s will always be around, one way or another. I don’t think we’ll ever get away from them.
