How Families In The 1950s Celebrated Thanksgiving

There’s a lot to be thankful for, even if we don’t have the most extravagant meal or celebration.

When most of us think about Thanksgiving, the first thing that we think about is food. We might also think about family or perhaps we reflect on a day of football in front of the TV.

The fact is, we all have a lot to be thankful for but what we are thankful for may or may not have changed over the years. That becomes evident when you see what an American family had to say in 1951.

In the video you see below, the family learned that they won’t have a Thanksgiving turkey on the day before Thanksgiving. They aren’t able to afford it, but what comes next may be somewhat of a surprise.

The children react similarly to what you would imagine. The mother is doing her best to make everyone feel good, despite the lack of the big bird on their table that Thursday.

When the father gets home from work, he tries to cheer everyone up by having the children say what they are most thankful for so they can reflect on it during their Thanksgiving meal the next day.

The children have the opportunity to think about things overnight about everything they truly have in life. When they are asked to share their thoughts the next day, it will warm your heart.
