Good Sleeping Habits from 1950

Family life had a rhythm back then.

When you were a kid bedtime was so simple. You did what Mom and Dad asked, you brushed your teeth (probably across!), and you probably fell asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. Despite the fact that most kids with good routines at home don’t have issues getting to sleep, schools of the era showed educational films on how to maintain good sleep habits- among many other things like good hygiene and manners.

In 1950 the film below was created to show kids that getting into good habits is part of what makes daily life go smoothly. The educational film illustrated that putting your toys away, brushing your teeth, and washing your face were all good habits to get into before bed. Two controversial aspects of the habits today might be the little boy’s tucked in pajama shirt and the fact that he sleeps with the window open! How times have changed.
