Great London Fire

The Great London Fire was a devastating event that swept through the central part of the city and burned for 5 days, from September 2nd to September 6th, 1666. Over a hundred years prior to the great fire, the famous French apothecary, Nostradamus, predicted the fire. Nostradamus published several collections of prophecies in his lifetime. While a lot of his predictions are vague in their language, others are startlingly clear and accurate. He predicted such major events as the death of Henry II to Hitler’s reign. The passage concerning the Great London Fire says, The blood of the just will be lacking in London, Burnt up in the fire ’66. The ancient Lady will topple from her high place, many of the same sect will be killed.”

iPad

This passage from Arthur C. Clark’s famous novel, “2001: A Space Odyssey,” describes a “newspad” that sounds eerily like our modern day iPads and tablets – “[Floyd] would plug his foolscap-size Newspad into the ship’s information circuit and scan the latest reports from Earth. The postage-stamp-size rectangle would expand until it neatly filled the screen. When he had finished, he would flash back to the complete page and select a new subject for details examination.” The novel was published in 1968… yet the accuracy and imagination for the “newspad” is amazing!
