His height was made comically small in British political cartoons and the image stuck, which proves just how effective they were! But, the error is also a function of the difference in how the French and the British measured inches. And, his wife Josephine was older than he was. On the marriage certificate, his age was bumped up while hers was reduced, making them appear on paper as a perfect match.
When he was sentenced to exile, Napoleon attempted to end his life by taking a poison pill he kept with him. Though it made him very ill, it did not kill him. He died 6 years after his exile to Saint Helena from stomach cancer.
