Watch An Air Boeing 767 Land And Take Off On An Icy Antarctica Runway

The flight was to pick up a group of scientists, but it proved to be challenging with the icy runway.

Pilot Snorri Bjarnvin Jónsson is here is provide us with some absolutely breathtaking footage. These types of videos give us all sorts of anxiety and they only make us respect pilots even more.

As they say, the easy part is the taking off. The hardest part is landing! Wait until you see the landing that they managed to pull off here, though. It is one for the ages.

It did not look like it would be very smooth from the footage that we saw but that’s why you need to check it out for yourself. The snowy, icy shelf of a runway looks like tough sledding, no pun intended. The best pilots in the world are able to navigate these spaces in the best possible way and this video provides the proof.

This flight was on hand to pick up a group of scientists who were spending time at the research station. This was their ride home and we are sure that they were glad to hop aboard.

“B767-300ER landing at Troll airfield in Antarctica in January 2022. Icelandic pilots and crew operated this flight and landed on the icy runway with scientists,” they explained in the description.

Iceland air said, “We usually fly closer to home, near the Arctic Circle, but this flight was even cooler: On Friday, February 26, an Icelandair Boeing 767 (TF-ISN), landed at Troll airfield (QAT) at the Troll research station operated by the Norwegian Polar Institute in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica.”

It may seem silly to some but these clips really help us to wind down. There’s something very comforting about knowing that there are people out there who have far more stressful jobs than anything that we could ever possibly fathom. We have all screwed up at work before but at least most of us can rest securely, knowing that our screw-ups will never be all that catastrophic.

That’s why we have the utmost respect for these pilots. They are able to achieve things that most of us would find impossible. Just watch the clips for yourself:
