Their estimates that commercial fight speeds would increase was correct, but not to the whopping 1,000 MPH as in the article. Commercial aircraft today fly at between 200 and 600 MPH depending on the altitude. Experts also proposed that the commonality of flights would increase dramatically.
In 1950 flights were still a rarity for most travelers, so this prediction was a big deal.
