A classic of the era, pineapple chunks in lime Jell-o was a staple of dinner parties and potlucks long after the Jell-o fad had faded. The recipe below helpfully advises an artistic, yet complicated arrangement of individual Jell-o salads.

Essentially a variation on ambrosia with slivered almonds, this decadent dessert sounds just heavenly.

9) Pineapple Cheese Ball

A true classic, there’s just something about pineapple with soft cheese that is irresistible.

This recipe calls for rolling the cheese ball in pecans.

This “refrigerator recipe” seems at first like just another fruit cocktail, but then the dish gets a super charge from the addition of ginger ale and mint sherbet!

The craze for recipes using pineapple cooled down in the decades following the ’50s, but many of the dishes above are ones we grew up eating. Nothing says 1950s like a dish with pineapple in it!
