After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy nearly 52 years ago, the limousine he was riding in was sent to Ohio to be refurbished. Amongst the modifications — which included a new paint job and bullet-proof exterior — were new license plates. The FBI agent who installed the new plates decided to throw out the old ones; that is when Mr. Hess, the owner of the company that customized the limousine, decided to retrieve them. Since then they have been stored in a kitchen drawer at his daughter’s house, until she recently decided to sell them at an auction (where they fetched $100,000). Check out the below video from USA Today for even more details on these amazing and historical plates.
