Dancing back in the old days was quite different to how young people dance today and this is clearly evident when you go back and watch clips from American Bandstand. We found this video from a 1967 dance contest and wow were those kids strutting their stuff!

In customary Dick Clark style he asks each entrant to give their name and age before they all get down to it. This particular episode was the finalist competition with a P.O. box shown during the dance that viewers could write into to vote for their favorite couple.

The dancers were swinging to Neil Diamond’s “You Got To Me” which reached number 18 on the charts that year. It’s really interesting to see how the couples incorporate moves from swing dance as well as the more individualistic singles dancing which had grown in popularity over the decade.
