A 1977 video from British Pathé tries to find out what these tall shoes actually do to your feet, interviewing people on the street why on earth people would choose to wear platform shoes. The answers are pretty astounding. Many of the older generation seem to really hate the idea of platform shoes, but the young folks love the trend and see platforms as a fun novelty.

Some women interviewed even describe them as a fashion need since they feel the height boost is a necessity, while tall girls say they can’t wear them at all. The interviewer is clearly biased as he keeps asking women who wear them “what do you think these shoes are doing your feet?” Dramatic interpretations from a man who appears to be a foot specialist tell of swollen knees, restricted blood flow, and improper balance! Watch the video below for a hilarious take on platform shoes from the 1970s!
