Our Favorite Summer Pastimes!

We remember when there were a few all-important summer activities we longed for each year. It just didn’t feel like summer if you didn’t get to do these things. Read on to see our summer essentials list!

3) Going to the Drive-in

Some families went all the time. For most people it was not a weekly outing, but it was great fun anytime you did get to go! The double feature was really the best since it offered another chance to enjoy yourself even if you didn’t love the first film. Trying to get the reception just right, saying hello to your neighbors, and sneaking off with your friends to get into mischief were such a part of the experience. Mom may have brought snacks for everyone, but if you were lucky, she’d give you some change and send you off to the snack stand for a treat!

2) Getting As Muddy As We Could

There was something very special about playing in the mud. Reserved for children, this special activity could take place under many auspices. Mud pies, sailing boats in puddles, splashing, or playing down by the creek. If there was mud, we were there, and getting as much of it on us as possible. It wasn’t going to end well for any light colored clothing!

1) Barbecued Everything!

Via/ Florida Memory

As many meals in summer were grilled as possible! Cookouts seemed like everyone’s favorite time, adults and kids alike. It was a chance to change up the usual routines of Mom in the kitchen. Cooking outside even appealed to Dad a few times. Those charcoal grills played a big part in our childhoods.
