During the time he was writing both The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, the author we know as Mark Twain (AKA Samuel Clemens) was living in a gorgeous and very large home in Hartford Connecticut. Clemens later moved to Redding, CT, before his death in 1910. But, from 1874 to 1891 Clemens resided in the Hartford house in what can only be called a very fine lifestyle indeed. Have a look inside his Hartford home with us!

In 1890 Clemens’ bad investments, including a typesetting machine that was quickly outmoded by other printing methods, caught up with him. In 1891 he moved with his family to Europe before setting out on a speaking tour, the latter of which enabled him to pay off his debts. But, the family would never again live at the Hartford house after Clemens’ financial problems.
