Son Snaps Pic Of Elderly Mom & Dad’s Unusual Morning Routine & Now It’s Going Viral.

When you’ve been married for a long time, it’s easy to fall into a routine.

When you’ve been married for a long time, it’s easy to fall into a routine.

For one pair of pensioners in North Yorkshire, England, that morning routine involves something a bit more interesting than the usual coffee-making and toast-buttering that most of us enjoy. For the Bork family, each morning begins with a friendly rivalry involving an old school video game called “Mario Kart 64.”

Louis Bork is this couple’s son, and he’s the one responsible for bringing this sweet ritual to the internet’s attention. Louis shared a photo on Reddit of his parents playing their morning game of Mario Kart, adding the caption, “Every day my parents play Mario Kart 64 to see who will make a cuppa tea. They’ve done this religiously since 2001.”

Louis explained that he received the racing game for Christmas back in 1999, but after he lost interest his parents decided to give the gaming system a try.

“It’s actually my old Christmas present from 1999,” said Louis. “Think we replaced one controller few years back. But yes they claim they play every day, and I’m the young one?”

When the online skeptics wondered if this adorable picture and story was a set-up designed to garner internet fame, Louis produced a screenshot of an old Instagram post he’d made in 2014.

Once satisfied that the Bork family pre-tea match was legit, the questions from fellow gamers came pouring in. Louis revealed that his parents usually play a match in race mode before starting a “best of three” battle mode. They’ve also got the hang of lots of tricks and strategies to make their games more interesting.

“Dad mains Toad, regardless of GP or Battle. Mum mains Wario for battle (just a collision can lose a balloon) and Yoshi for GP, the tactical lady she is,” explained Louis. “They play one GP then best of 3 on Battle.”

One Redditor asked the question we all want to know: “Who ends up making the tea the most?”

Turns out, it’s a bit of a wash.

“I’ll be honest, although I’d moved out years ago, from what I’ve seen it’s fairly even. They both know all the tricks, to the point where few years back they had to agree not to use shortcuts or cheats as they would bicker.”

If this isn’t the cutest, most wholesome competition we’ve ever heard about, we don’t know what is. What a lovely way to guarantee that your day starts with a bit of fun! Thanks for sharing your parents’ adorable morning routine, Louis.

If this made you smile, please share it to spread the joy!
