Van Doren’s roles were often bad girls in high school or college, yet her name is still uttered alongside Marilyn Monroe’s due to her physical resemblance and the media splash that constantly surrounded her.

While no actress could match the appeal of Marilyn Monroe, precisely because she wanted to be so much more than a ditzy blonde, the copycats that studios cast to boost their box office sales helped to create a “type” that endures to this day.
