They are on loan from the Museum Delores Olmedo in Mexican city. This will be the largest event of the works of Frida Kahlo in over four decades in Chicago.

A number of major events from Kahlo’s career will be covered, including her accident and injury as well as her romance with Diego Rivera. It will come together in Frida Kahlo 2020, with a selection of oil paintings and drawings by the artist. It will include her autobiographical paintings that carry the themes of Mexican politics, culture, love, and death. Along with her collection of art, historical exhibits will also be included to add some context. Those include some of Kahlo’s clothing, a timeline of her life and a video presentation. A ‘poetry garden’ has also been designed by the Boll Horticultural Company.

“This unique collection of works is deeply tied to Kahlo’s personal narrative. it covers an arc of her life and career,” says Justin Witte, Cleve Carney Museum of Art Director and exhibition curator. “It’s a full arc tied into her person and covers her accident, which is when she started to create self-portraits.”
