14 of Our Favorite TV Dads of All Time – #13 Was The Best!

They sure don’t make ’em like these guys anymore.

Whether they were quirky or predictable, our favorite TV dads were entertaining and fun to watch. We loved these shows and maybe sometimes thought it sounded neat to hang out with them or spend an afternoon putzing around their awesome TV homes.

8) Gomez Addams

Always interested in his kids and his family, this goofy yet suave character was constantly doing something new. From knife-throwing to composing music, this is one TV dad who was never a snore! And, he was dressed to the nines every single. No sweats or stained undershirt for Gomez. He was the perfect head of this odd household on The Addams Family.

9) Dr. Stone

Smart and sensible, he was a soothing presence on one of the best shows on TV. He had a few schemes in his time, but for the most part Dr. Stone was just a swell guy. The Donna Reed Show portrayed a family of smart and talented folks, with a dad who was not afraid to let his wife’s intelligence shine through.

10) Howard Cunningham

Mr. C may have been a bit old-fashioned, but he always made time for his family. In his sweater and newspaper, he certainly looked the part. He was perhaps our favorite hardware-store-owning-TV-dad.

11) Jed Clampett

He may not have been the most sophisticated man, but Jed Clampett was always looking out for his family, asking them about their projects, and making sure that as little as possible was in danger of catching fire at any moment. It was a joy to watch this fiercely loyal TV family battle it out with the city folk on The Beverly Hillbillies.

12) Ben Cartwright

Bonanza was so popular and Ben Cartwright such a beloved character, that even Dean Martin wanted to be one of his sons! Watch as Dean petitions Lorne Green for a role on the show in this fun clip that really explains how many people felt at the time (and still do).

13) Charles Ingalls

Wild wanderer, rugged frontiersman, and loving father all in one package, Pa was the dad you always wished you could hang around. He always seemed like he could’ve taught you how to trap animals, split wood, or just to become a better person. Little House on the Prairie was one of the most wholesome shows on TV and is still a favorite.

14) Al Bundy

He may not have been able to hold a candle to some of the more peace-loving or traditional dads on the list, but he was a heck of a character on Married…with Children and he really did love his family underneath it all. He made us laugh and (on occasion) feel sorry for him with his trademark grumpy faces and bedraggled expressions.
