Famous Paintings Are Being Turned Into 3D Art For The Visually Impaired

Amongst some of the famous works being turned into 3D versions is Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus.

Being able to go to a museum and view the beautiful works of some of the world’s greatest artists truly is a gift – but not everyone has that ability.

For people who are visually impaired, this is one of the joys of life that they’re unable to partake in. They can’t see the artwork the way that we do.

However, in order to make sure that people with visual impairments don’t miss out, art museums are now working with innovative ways of creating tactile versions of famous paintings for those who are blind or have low vision.

By being able to experience the art through touch, they’re allowing visually impaired people to “see” beautiful works of art that they may not have been able to see otherwise. Honestly, that is just a beautiful thing.

Amongst some of the famous works being turned into 3D versions is Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. The painting itself is an incredible work of art that hangs at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. But now, it has been transformed into a tactile version so that someone touching it will be able to experience all that is in the painting – Venus, the winds, Zephyr, the nymph, Chloris, and Horai holding out a gown for Venus.

That fact that now everyone – not just sighted people – can see something of such significance to humanity is really a wonderful feeling. Everyone should be able to experience the moving beauty of art.
