There are a number of Boston histories that are truly responsible for the name Beantown. A contributing factor in the prevalence of the name is a conference 1890 veterans’ during which tiny pots of beans were given as parting gifts, leading to an increased usage of the term Beantown. But, the name was firmly cemented in national memory after a tourism marketing campaign in 1907- with the slogan above plastered on posters and postcards aplenty.
