The Fleetwoods Perform “Come Softly To Me” On American Bandstand
This song is a dear old favorite.
“Come Softly to Me” was #2 in April of 1959 and there’s no question why. This elegant and soothing song was sung with real style and vocal talent by the Fleetwoods – Gary Troxel, Gretchen Christopher, and Barbara Ellis. This trio not only had a mellow sound, they had a unique presentation for TV appearances where the ladies would stand behind Troxel in doorways or windows, the female members of the group wearing beautiful dresses while Troxel wore a suit.
Hear them again on American Bandstand in the lovely clip below. We love hearing people in the audience clap along to great music. It’s not often that such a slow song gets the audience so riled up!
