Love ’em or hate ’em, there’s no denying that reality TV singing competitions are here to stay. While we don’t consider ourselves fanatics of any particular franchise, we find that we’re constantly coming across some truly incredible performances from NBC’s The Voice. You’re probably familiar with the show, but for those who are not, here’s a quick overview: the show features aspiring singers who perform in front of a panel of four famous musicians and are then divided into teams. Each panel member guides and coaches their team through the season, with one participant ultimately winning the grand prize of $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.

Since 2011, The Voice has featured some tremendously talented contestants; and while their talent alone is usually enough to grab our attention, we get especially interested when they cover a song we grew up with. After all, our generation had THE BEST music, and we just love it when it gets shared with a younger crowd. So we decided to dig through the archives, and what we found are the 10 best performances of songs we grew up with (nothing newer than 1973).

“God Only Knows”

During the 2015 season of The Voice, Jordan Smith and Adam Levine teamed up to give us an outstanding performance of the Beach Boys’ classic “God Only Knows.” Smith went on to win season 9, and it’s easy to see why! His melodic voice was perfect for this beautiful song, as you’ll see below.

“Dream a Little Dream of Me”

With so many fantastic renditions of this classic hit, it’s no wonder 2015 contestant Amy Vachal decided to audition with it. Everyone from Nat King Cole to the Mamas & the Papas have covered this beautiful song (we personally love the Doris Day rendition). Whichever version of the song is your favorite, we have a feeling you’ll appreciate Vachal’s calm and serene voice. The gentle guitar plucking that accompanied her performance was just the cherry on top!
