It could have been a sick day in bed for Derek McLennan, a retired businessman and amateur treasure hunter. But instead, he decided to drag himself out of bed and explore an area in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, with his metal detector. Lucky for him too, because he ended up finding one of the most important discoveries in viking history: more than 100 artifacts from a Viking raid that date back to as far as the 8th century! The collection, which is currently up for auction and could bring in more than one million dollars, includes brooches, armbands, and a decorated cross.
