2. Marquise Goodwin dedicates every day of his life to his permanently-disabled sister Deja.

“Deja wasn’t given the chance to really experience life. So I am responsible to her and she lives through me. We live vicariously through each other,” Goodwin said.

Born just ten months after her world-class athlete brother Marquise, Deja Goodwin has been disabled since birth due to Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a devastating muscle and brain disability which confines Deja to a chair and has rendered her legally blind and unable to care for her own basic needs.

The cruel irony is not lost on Marquise, who carries the burden of living on behalf of his little sister.

“I start each day by giving thanks…taking a moment to appreciate the opportunities I’ve been granted. My sister Deja, she’s never been able to walk…or even take care of herself, really,” Goodwin said in a 2013 interview with Sports Illustrated.
