One of our favorite shows back in the day, The Gong Show was always good for a laugh and occasionally some good entertainment, too! For four years this classic variety show made us giggle. But, there was one guest in 1977 who made this show a whole lot more special. Introduced as the Mad Banjo by the legendary Chuck Barris, this high-speed talent later declares his name to be Biff. But, we know better!

It’s the one and only Steve Martin playing a knockout banjo set on The Gong Show. We didn’t know that Martin was such a whiz at the banjo, but he proves himself to be a formidable force with the instrument, even if he can’t reallybe a contestant on the show! Have a look at these two in true form below. And, be sure to check out the very first Muppets appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show right here!
