Located in Southern India, the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the largest Hindu houses of worship in existence; it also happens to be a brightly-colored marvel. Built as a dedication to the Hindu God of Ranganatha, a reclining form of the deity Vishnu, the temple covers six miles and is home to more than 21 towers, 39 pavilions, and 50 shrines. The first known construction on the temple dates back to more than 700 years, and is a beacon of the Dravidian architecture style that’s popular in the region. Though the temple has been through some hard times, including natural disasters and invasions, it’s remained intact and is just as beautiful as ever.
