Martha and the Vandellas do a sensational job of infusing this fun song with pure energy. “(Love is Like a) Heat Wave” was the group’s second big hit after “Come and Get These Memories” and over the years they had many more. But, back in the summer of ’63 they were just a fledgling girl group recording for Motown’s Gordy label and hoping for success. Over the next decade the girl group would release a whopping twenty-sixhits! Martha Reeves, Betty Kelly, and Rosalind Ashford certainly knew how to top the charts!
