A Young Wayne Newton Showcases His One-of-a-Kind Voice In This Clip From 1968

While Newton was 21 years old at the time of the recording, he still maintained a childlike voice that was well-suited for the romantic melody.

Chances are at some point in your life, you’ve come across the song “Danke Schoen.” Whether it was from the original recording by Bert Kaempfert in 1962, or when Ferris Bueller famously lip synced it in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, most people are familiar with this catchy tune. Of course, we have to give credit to the most famous rendition of “Danke Schoen” performed by “Mr. Las Vegas” Wayne Newton in 1963. While Newton was 21 years old at the time of the recording, he still maintained a childlike voice that was well-suited for the romantic melody. Fun fact: the song was originally intend for Bobby Darin as a follow up to “Mack the Knife.” However, Darin decided to give Newton the song after seeing him perform it at the Copacabana nightclub in New York City.

Watch as Newton gives a suave, charming performance of “Danke Schoen,” in the following clip from 1968.
