2) Rosebud Sled from Citizen Kane

This sought-after piece of film history was finally put up for auction in 2015 after years of speculation. This unique sled featured prominently in the film, such that the phrase “Rosebud” immediately conjures up emotionally charged imagery. Before the auction took place, estimates of what it might sell for were very ambitious. The actual auction price was $149,000. One of three made for the film, this sled differs in design from the Rosebud of Kane’s childhood scenes. The look-alikes were said to have been acquired for the sled-burning scene and this was one that, rather than getting burned, was given to writer, Herman Mankiewicz at the wrap party for the film.
