This Andrews Sisters Performance From 1941 Is Still Just As Moving Today As It Was Then

In this clip from the 1941 Abbott and Costello film “Buck Privates,” the Andrews Sisters perform the catchy and charming song, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Of Company B.”

We recently featured a clip of the Castle Sisters fromGlenn Miller Time, and it got us feeling so nostalgic that we decided to look for more of our favorite old performances.

They just don’t make music like they used to, am I right?

So naturally, we went straight to the Andrews Sisters!

The Andrews Sisters, LaVerne, Maxene, and Patty Andrews were each born in the early 20th century in Mound, MN, the children of a Greek immigrant father and a Norwegian immigrant mother who ran a restaurant in Minneapolis. While their mother ran a restaurant in Minneapolis, the girls honed their singing, performing on local radio programs and in amateur revues.

According to All Music, “the Andrews Sisters were the most successful female vocal group of the first half of the 20th century in the U.S.”

They released at least 113 chart-topping singles between 1938 and 1951 — that’s about eight every year. The sisters sang everything from cheery novelty songs to more complex arrangements that rivaled the sounds of big swing bands at the time.

“But, in a sense, they had no competition,” All Music reports. “No other female vocal group, and very few male ones, came close to their success from the late ’30s to the early ’50s, an era when first big bands and then solo singers dominated popular music.”

These ladies manage to capture our hearts every time with their performances, and we hope they do the same for you!

In this video, the Andrews Sisters perform the catchy and charming song, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Of Company B,” one of their most memorable and famous songs, from the 1941 Abbott and Costello film “Buck Privates.” And boy do they know how to belt it out! They hit this one out of the ballpark!
