Thanks To American Bandstand, The Stroll Swept The Nation In The Late 50s!

If you grew up in the 50s, chances are you already know what we’re talking about!

If you grew up in the 50s, chances are you already know what we’re talking about (in fact you probably know even if you didn’t grow up in the 50s, it was that popular). In 1957, American Bandstand aired a group dance called The Stroll, in which the boys line up on one side, the girls line up on the other side, and one from each group meet in the middle to “stroll” down the lane. Originally performed by The Diamonds, the song reached number 4 on the Billboard pop charts in 1957, and it inspired a dance craze that swept the nation! In the following clip from a 1958 local dance show in Idaho, you’ll see the original stroll. Check it out for a fun blast from the past, and let us know, what was your favorite dance craze?
